Here is the note I got tonight from our beloved teacher of history, Ralph Becker:
Thanks for the memories...great history of ye old South Shore neighborhood. My eyes teared over. Am hanging in there. I have lost the full use of my legs but am able to get around with a cane inside the house and a walker outside. Am also on my third pair of hearing aids..so that tells you about my physical shape. Have givenup dr iving and have given my 2003 Camry sedan to my daughter Pam who lives in nearby Deerfield. Her husband is Howard Reich, jazz critic at the Trib. She took an early buyout several years ago from the Trib after 30 years.
As you may know, the Trib tower will be vacated soon to new owners who will convert it to more commercial sites. Their new site is undetermined at present.
My niece teaches in Chicago and lives there; and runs into SS alums all the time. She is the one who alerted me to your (our!) reunion. I hope my regards were made to the group.
Stay healthy, and L'shana tovah.
